Kristin

Hey, y’all. i’m Kristin. I live in Atlanta, where I have a full-time job in advertising and a part-time obsession with figuring out what I really want to do when I grow up. I'm always adding to my extensive collection of unfinished writings, to-do lists and crossword puzzles. I’m a book club failure and can’t follow a recipe to save my life. I hate running, but i try to do it anyway. because, well, fat. If there were more hours in the day, I would sleep more, write more, explore more . . . and probably run more. My life usually feels epically chaotic, but I'd honestly be bored to death if it wasn’t. (And there’s always a Chardonnay in the fridge if things get to be just too much!) When can find the time, I write about it all.

halfway to a 6-pack!

okay, i so wish it worked like that. but i, who probably haven’t done a sit up since the Presidential Fitness Test back in the day, have to give myself a pat on the back for staying with this thing for a full 15 days, now. full disclosure: i actually just completely forgot about it […]

recipes & me

i know i’ve mentioned before how i can’t follow a recipe to save my life. not sure whether it’s short attention  span, annoyance with details or what, but man, do i just hate to be tied to following instructions when i cook. that said, i found it kind of amusing today when i pulled out […]

pantry livin’: bathroom drawer style

i have been fighting all weekend with overstuffed drawers in nearly every room of my house. i mean, literally fighting. i actually sustained an injury when a finger got caught between a drawer and the pile of stuff inside trying to unstick it. so, this morning when i was still fighting, this time with one […]

Monday: couscous with the chicken and onions, add red and green bell peppers. everyone’s happy. Tuesday: steak on salad for […]

in progress: The Goldfinch

if you’ve read my About page, you already know i’m a confessed book club failure. here’s the proof. i started this book for book club in um, February? not only did i not finish it in time for our first meeting in March, i’m not sure i’m even halfway through yet. it’s not that i […]

Sunday supper: meat!

i’ve been trying really hard to keep my daily calories balanced with 40% carbs, 30% fat and 30% protein. unofficially Zone-ish, i guess. anyway, was super low on protein today leading into dinner, so i figured some nice chunks of red meat were my best bet to get right! sirloin kebabs marinated in oil, soy […]

the silent treatment

so file this one under random (oh wait, i did), but there was just too much irony in the situation not to write about it. i woke up this morning with laryngitis. yes. as in no voice to even scream about how unbelievably unfair it is, laryngitis. i have never experienced this before in my […]

how he made my Mother’s Day

yesterday afternoon, these arrived. sweet Spy actually remembered Mother’s Day all the way in Poland—and did something about it. not that he’s terrible in this area, but he still totally scored some points with the gesture alone. but there’s more. not only are they gorgeous, they are from my favorite florist. he actually remembered that […]

how we turned 6

i am such an incredible nerd. i wish i had a sweet picture of Spy and myself from a romantic anniversary outing yesterday—kissy-facing and clinking champagne glasses on a rooftop patio as the sun sets over the Atlanta skyline behind us with a sparkle in our eyes and rainbows and baby unicorns hovering nearby . of cupcakes and confidence

“Mommy, why don’t you like cupcakes?” takes another giant lick of frosting off the top of hers. half ends up inside her mouth, half gloms on top of her growing pink mustache. “well, it’s not that i don’t like them, i just don’t feel like having one right now.” god, i really do feel like […]

Sunday supper: not chicken

i’ve been suffering from a terrible eczema outbreak since January. my daughter’s, that is. she, on the other hand, hasn’t complained a bit. while i cursed through round after frustrating round of trial and (mostly) error with lotions and potions we’ve used previously, she remained her sunny self. through itchy nights when all the Benadryl i […]
